June 20th

20 days until June 20th, the day I will finally see the sign on Katahdin and start my 2200 mile journey south.

I have now seen the doctor twice about my foot. It has been feeling better. Yesterday I got a steroid shot to help bring down the swelling and it seems to be helping. (Knock on wood!)

Now, with my foot problems seeming to be sorting themselves out, (let's knock on wood again, just in case) I move on to the next worry...the fact that I haven't hiked in more than a month waiting for my foot to mend. In addition, I won't have an opportunity to go backpacking again before we get to Maine. I may get to go for a dayhike or two but no backpacking opportunities. Yikes.

The doctor told me to take it easy this week to let the steroid shot do its work. It looks like I will have 2 weeks to prepare my body for the biggest physical challenge I've ever endured. (but its not like the hardest part of the trail happens right at the beginning or anything.....oh wait....it totally does.)

I plan to do whatever training I can squeeze in over the next 3 weeks, so don't be surprised if you see me walking around the school or town with my backpack on.
